Pipe Fitting Size Chart: DN, Inch and OD Conversion

Pipe fitting buyers often use different size expressions in the same purchasing list, including DN, inch, millimeter size and pipe outside diameter. This page helps buyers check common size terms before sending an RFQ for threaded, galvanized, black or grooved pipe fittings.

For final procurement, please confirm the actual product type, pipe standard, thread standard, pipe O.D. and application with the supplier.

How to Use This Size Chart

Use this chart to identify the product type and size expression before requesting a quote. For threaded fittings, buyers should confirm DN, inch size and thread standard. For grooved fittings, buyers should confirm nominal size, pipe outside diameter and coating requirement.

DN, Inch and OD Are Not Always the Same Thing

DN is a nominal pipe size expression. Inch size is commonly used in purchasing lists. OD means pipe outside diameter and is especially important for grooved couplings and grooved fittings.

For example, a buyer may write 2 inch flexible grooved coupling, while the supplier may need the exact pipe O.D. before confirming the model and quotation.

FAQ

Q1: Can I use this chart for final ordering?

Use it as an RFQ reference. Final ordering should be confirmed by product model, pipe standard, thread or groove requirement and project application.

Q2: Why do some grooved fittings need pipe O.D.?

Grooved fittings connect around the pipe outside diameter, so O.D. confirmation is important for couplings, mechanical tees and grooved fittings.

Q3: Should threaded fittings use DN or inch?

Both may appear in buyer inquiries. It is best to provide both DN and inch size, plus the required thread standard.
